In this paper, the author describes the ways in which libraries can contribute towards distance learning. She concludes that, in Slovenia, university and other libraries will need to adapt themselves to the world trends and, in accordance with them, ensure a more exemplary and expeditive, primarily flexible form of education. Among the improvements, she stresses in particular: access to electronic information, training in the identification of electronic information and in devising mechanisms for information return. The author concludes thatdistance learning is one of the most complex challenges presently being faced by libraries, not only in Slovenia but also world-wide
