Training of future English teachers

The author shows the current state of linguistic training of the future English teachers at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. He points out some visions of the future. Knowledge of a language is not enough to teach the language .. The university has to turn the future teachers into 'thinking pragmatists'; to reach this goal, it has to offer them an appropriate proportion of theory and practice. At the same time, it has to provide a balanced development of linguistic and pedagogical abilities and skills. Only such a program can offer students a professional orientation
