In a questionnaire 89 farmers supplied details about farming conditions and grazing management and gave their opinions about grazing their dairy herd. Fourteen farmers with different grazing systems were interviewed about their attitude towards grazing and the way they implemented grazing in the farm. All organic dairy farmers in the Netherlands value grazing cows but circumstances limit length of the grazing period and/or number of grazing hours per day. Qualitative results are combined with animal based welfare parameters and production and fertility data of the cows
