Objective: Clostridium difficile is the most important definable cause of healthcare-acquired diarrhea which is mostly associated with inappropriate use of broad-spectrum antibiotics. Recommended treatments for C. difficile infection (CDI) are metronidazole, oral vancomycin, and fidaxomicin (a new narrow spectrum macrocyclic antibiotic).
