This paper presents the Distribution Working Group run by the University of Strathclyde is undertaking a project to provide a clear picture of the activities of active management in distributed generation. Active network management (ANM) solutions are developed to enable the increase connection of DG. ANM can be described as the control and management of network equipment and the devices they serve in normal conditions to enhance the utilisation of the network assets and minimise the requirement for their reinforcement to enable development of the system. The main outcomes of a recent project to collate and analyse activities that are ongoing or completed in the area of active management are described in the articl
