Ulcerative colitis (UC) has a prevalence of 1 in 1000 inhabitants in Switzerland. The diagnosis of UC is based on a typical clinical presentation that involves bloody diarrhea, characteristic endoscopic features with continuous inflammation involving the rectum, and compatible histology.
