This chapter briefly makes the case for continuing to utilize the concept of carrying capacity in the management of tourism and recreation areas. It then presents an overview of the application of actions to limit overuse and negative impacts on protected areas in the UK, including national or system-wide initiatives and facility-level approaches. In spite of all limitations related to tourism carrying capacity assessment, the need to continue studying carrying capacity and searching for acceptable maximum levels of use is confirmed
