This study is an \ud investigation into the contribution of bilingualism to learning \ud English as a foreign language; and the limited and judicious use of \ud mother tongue in EFL classroom does not reduce students\ud communicative ability but can assist in teaching learning process. \ud It proposes an explanation for this, based on the historical \ud development of bilingualism over time that has remained the dominant \ud practice in\ud English language classes in Pakistan.
