Sorption behaviour of cesium, strontium, cobalt, ruthenium, cerium, europium and uranium has been studied on soil selected for the disposal of low level radioactive waste solutions.\ud \ud Physical, chemical and mineralogical characteristics of the soil used for these studies were determined. The soil was a silty clay and alkaline in nature. The cation exchange capacity of the soil was found to be 35 meq/100g. The principal clay mineral identified by X-ray diffraction analysis was illite.\ud \ud The sorption experiments were performed by batch technique using radioactive nuclides of the elements as tracers.
