A generalised, unified matrix solution for torque, flux and voltage analysis of any doubly salient switched reluctance machine is presented. The matrix formulation caters for symmetrical and asymmetrical winding configurations with any phase number, number of layers, varied phase turns, coil pitch and connection. Stator and rotor lamination symmetry, and highly permeable magnetic material are assumed. Torque developed, positive or negative, and stator teeth and back-iron flux can be analysed for any current excitation sequence and shape, involving unipolar, bipolar or any combination of each current.
