The visceral adiposity index (VAI) is a marker of visceral fat distribution and dysfunction. Visceral adiposity is related to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD); however, there is some controversy regarding the association between VAI and NAFLD. The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between VAI and NAFLD and to describe the related factors in severely obese patients. A total of 139 patients who underwent bariatric surgery were included in this cross-sectional study. Liver biopsy was performed during surgery.
