Chagas disease, caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, affects several million people in Latin America. Myocarditis, observed during both the acute and chronic phases of the disease, is characterized by an inflammatory mononuclear cell infiltrate that includes CD4(+) T cells.
