Japoneses e europeus e suas maneiras de curar o corpo visto por um Jesuíta do século XV

For the Portuguese the 16th century was a period of travels and contacts with unknown people and cultures. Shortly before mid-century, Portuguese sailors discovered the mythical island of Japan, with which they established trade, cultural and religious relations. Between the religious priests sent to evangelize the Japanese was the Jesuit Luís Fróis, who left an important Treaty where he compared the civilizational differences between Europeans and Japanese at the 16th century. This article aims at a comparative and critical analysis of the the customs, habits and medical practices among Europeans and Japanese at the sixteenth century, witnessed by Luís Fróis, in order to understand how the Portuguese saw and understood the exoticism of this «other».To understand this issue we will use the main source available, which is the «Tratado em que se contêm muito sucinta e abreviadamente algumas contradições e diferenças de costumes antre a gente de Europa e esta província de Japão (1585)» by Father Luís Fróis
