BACKGROUND: Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is an endogenous oxidant enzyme that produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) and may be involved in lung carcinogenesis. The MPO-463G>A polymorphism influences MPO transcription and has been associated with lung cancer susceptibility.
