Pharmacological and Sociocultural factors of the Consumption of the Coca Leaf by the Kogui Natives in Colombia

The investigation compares pharmacological and sociocultural factors of the consumption of the coca leaf by the Kogui natives of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia. The pharmacological and sociocultural aspects of the consumption of cocaine in urban environments are also related with the concepts of tolerance and dependence to psychoactive substances. The results contribute to the development and design of programs of prevention, treatment and reduction of risk and damage in drug addiction, as well as suggests future social policies of prevention in drugs consumptio
