Background. The article describes the results of the studies of diabetic nephropathy in obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). The aim of the study is to investigate the combination of obesity and renal pathology in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods. The study included 50 patients with type 2 DM (17 men and 33 women), mean age 58.5 ± 7.0 years treated at the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Centre of Endocrinology in 2014–2016. The patients were randomized into 2 groups: with obesity (BMI > 30 kg/m2; n = 38) and without it (BMI < 30 kg/m2; n = 12).
