International audienceThis study addresses the case of the transformation of the ex cárcel de Valparaíso into a cultural space, beginning in the year 2000, in order to ponder on the tensions of the memory in the early 20th-century Chile. By assuming the territoriality as one of the "social frames of memory" (Halbwachs), I firstly consider the prison's memorial inscription, especially with regard to its urban-neighborhood dimension, exploring the scope that this bring up about a political imaginary associated to the space. In second place, I question up to which point the discourses around the "World Heritage" condition - with which Valparaíso was invested in 2003 by the UNESCO - are connected to the debates around the rehabilitation of the ...
