Le projet migratoire des migrants touaregs de la zone de Bankilaré: la pauvreté désavouée

International audienceThe article argues that the complexity of circular migrations can best be analysed by using the concept of “migratory projects”, since it catches various social, spatial and temporal dimensions of circular migrations and thus also allows to capture different social processes on different geographical scales. The case study of Tuaregs (Bankilaré, Niger) shows how the concept not only allows to study the characteristics of these movements but also the tensions that arise within the social group(s) from which migrants originate. From the perspective of those who move migration is a strategy to evade poverty on a local scale. Understood as a project, migration can be shown to involve generational conflicts, and more generally, a conflict between migrants and non-migrants which is articulated around the intervention of a recent development project, the emergence of specific discourses on poverty and contemporary migratory dynamics.La notion de projet migratoire permet de rendre compte de la complexité des migrations circulaires car elle articule les différentes échelles sociales, spatiales et temporelles. L'exemple des migrations circulaires de la zone de Bankilaré (Niger) montre comment le projet révèle non seulement les caractéristiques de ces mouvements, mais aussi les tensions propres au groupe social. Ainsi le projet du côté des migrants, apparaît comme un contournement de la pauvreté à l'échelle locale. Il permet de mettre en évidence un conflit générationnel entre migrants et non migrants, qui s'articule autour de l'intervention d'un projet de développement et de la dynamique migratoire contemporaine
