International audienceDiscreprencies observed in experimental buckling loads related to thin shells are mostly due to the random nature of the initial geometric imperfections. It is therefore necessary to consider this problem from a probabilistic point of view. This paper represents a contribution to this area and addresses the stability of cylindrical thin shells with random initial shape imperfections under an external given pressure. In order to solve this problem, a subset simulation method is applied based on numerical results obtained from a finite element model.
