The model adopted for the writing and distribution of the catalogues of the ducal collection, conceived by the architect Leo von Klenze and the curator Nepomuk Muxel in Munich, is different from the museum models then available. Between 1825 and 1851 work on illustrated catalogues and the international distribution of the ``paper museum'' progressively adopted a scientific organisation and contributed to the writing of art history, and of the history of museums, by developing the ideas on museums of Nicolas de Pigage and Christian von Mechel in Dusseldorf.
