This review deals with the control of reproduction in teleost fish. The sexual cycle and spawning are strongly dependent on environmental factors and mainly in changes in photoperiod and temperature. Other factors such as food and social factors are also important. Experimental modifications of the environment may allow control of the reproductive cycle. Hormonal factors are mainly used for either synchronisation (salmonids) or induction spawning (cyprinid, sea bass, sea bream). Initiation of full gametogenesis is possible only for males
