Dynamique différentielle des interactions didactiques et co-construction de la différence des sexes en Education Physique et Sportive. Le cas de l’attaque en volley-ball en lycées agricoles.

Rooted on a sociological and psychosociological review of literature about gender inequalities within the school system, the aims of the thesis is to identify the social construction of gender in Physical Education (PE) from a didactic approach. Social research in sport has shown that PE contributes to reinforce and legitimate significant gender inequalities. Girls and boys develop different attitudes, perceptions, competencies, skills and knowledge about PE content. The aim of the part 1 is to investigate student’s attitude and perceptions of volleyball as a school subject. The research methodology is a survey (n=507), carried out in high schools (11th grade – 16-17 years old), to investigate the student’s attitudes and perceptions of PE, game sports and more specifically volleyball… We investigate student’s attitudes and perceptions (as social representations) through word association and a semantic differentiation testes and their gendered orientations. Research purposes (part 2) are to describe, understand and explain the pedagogical practices of teaching and learning specific contents with regard to gender, in order to identify the conditions and the constraints which are to be taken account to provide gender equity in PE. The method was to observe classroom interactions using the methodology of “Joint Action in Didactic”, which purpose is to understand the “didactic contract” between teachers and students by observing it in practice and through the relations between teachers, learners and the content really taught. The result of the whole study concludes that gendered knowledge is co-constructed in situations. We suggests that student’s willingness to engage constructively with the institutional imperatives of the school and the individual’s gender position together, permit us to render an account of learning and teaching in PE.La thèse s’intéresse à la dynamique des apprentissages scolaires en EPS et plus particulièrement en volley-ball selon le genre des élèves. Les données psychosociologiques et didactiques mettent en évidence l’influence des représentations couplées avec les identités de genre sur le type de dispositions sociales des élèves. La question de recherche fondamentale est d’observer en quoi et comment les dispositions sociales (ici, la position de genre) se transforment ou non en dispositions scolaires. Pour analyser cette question, deux concept centraux sont mobilisés : les concepts de représentations (sociales et fonctionnelles) tels qu’utilisés en didactique, et le concept de contrat didactique différentiel. Les données proviennent d’administration de questionnaires ; puis dans une seconde étape d’observations ethnographiques et d’enregistrements vidéo et audio, couplés avec des entretiens menés avec les enseignant/e/s et les élèves à, propos de situations d’attaque en volley-ball. Les résultats caractérisent finement les conditions dans lesquelles filles et garçons tirent profit ou non des apprentissages scolaires qui leur sont proposés en EPS. Il existe une intrication entre les positions de genre, les représentations et l’entrée dans le contrat didactique et son évolution différentielle au cours du processus d’apprentissage
