International audienceClitic pronouns were a shared feature of Middle Iranian Languages. However, Modern Western Iranian languages display significant differences with respect to existence, functions and placement of clitics. Some of them, like Zazaki and Kurmanji, have simply lost their clitic pronouns. In some other languages, clitics have survived and maintained their initial pronominal function, ex. Persian, while in others, they have acquired a new function as subject-verb agreement markers, ex. Sorani, or even have given up their initial function in favor of the latter, ex. Talysh.
