The article deals with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — a pathology, which occupies a leading place among all acid-related diseases. The main mechanism of GERD is a violation of the motor-evacuation function of the stomach — slowing gastric emptying and duodenogastric reflux. Slow gastric emptying contributes to more frequent reflux, and the presence of duodenal contents in refluxate — alkaline reflux — is aggressive for the esophageal mucosa (EM). This is due to the presence of bile acids, lysolecithin and pancreatic enzymes in the esophageal refluxate.
