Statistical analysis of longitudinal building inspections data

This Master Thesis deals with analysis of the protocols from annual and five years inspections of the technical condition and suitability for use of the buildings in Olsztyn, Poland. The study starts by exploring the main technical condition of particular buildings elements. The main goal is to analyze statistical possibilities to this data, and to fit models describing possible changes and damage of the buildings elements in the future. The obligation to control the technical condition of the buildings due to the provision of Polish Act - Construction Law, from 7 VII 1994. Data used in the analysis were collected during inspections of the technical codition and suitability for use of the buildings, in Olsztyn. Information come from inspections which were carried out from 2012 to 2016, in exception of year 2014. In total, 301 and one protocol have been collected, and they describe the condition of 81 buildings. The collected data has been modified using scripts - written in Bash and Python 2.7, to easily access table in .xls format. Analyses of the data were made in Minitab 17, and they include: material distribution, individual and averaged condition profiles evolution, conditional probabilities for material given condition and viceversa, as well as plots and conditional probabilities for condition and urgency of intervention. The aim of the analysis was to fit models describing changes of technical condition, that occur during the use of buildings. In the Thesis statistical summaries of the 28 building elements has been described. Detailed analyses were made for four of them - roof covering, facades, plinths and bands. The results obtained were used to fit models in order to predict the progression of the technical status of the building facades in the future. Main conclusions from this Master Thesis come from, on one hand, deficiencies that have been found during the data management and, on the other hand, discussions and specific conclusions derived from the statistical forms in Appendix F, for everyone of the elements in the protocols of inspections.Aquesta Treball Final de Màster tracta l’anàlisi de fitxers d’inspecció de la condició tècnica i d’ús d’edificis a Olsztyn, Polònia, per a protocols d’inspecció d’un i de cinc anys de periodicitat. L’estudi comença explorant els principals conceptes sobre la condició tècnica dels diferents elements. El principal objectiu és l’anàlisi estadística d’aquestes dades i l’estimar models que permetin descriure el canvi en la condició tècnica al llarg del temps. L’obligació de seguiment i control de la condició tècnica a Polònia, deriva de la Llei d’Edificació de 7 de Juliol de 1994. Les dades que s’han fet servir en l’anàlisi corresponen a inspeccions fetes sobre la condició tècnica dels edificis en el període de l’any 2012 a 2016 (a excepció de l’any 2014). En total, es van fer 301 inspeccions que descriuen la condició tècnica d’un total de 81 edificis. Les dades recollides en documents Word han estat tractades en scripts, implementats en Bash i Python 2.7, per a ser exportades a un format més fàcil ús en format .xls d’Excel. Les anàlisis han estat fetes en Minitab 17 i inclouen: distribució per materials, perfils d’evolució de la condició tècnica individual i en mitjana, probabilitats condicionades per al material donada la condició (i a l’inrevès), així com gràfiques i probabilitats condicionades de la condició tècnica i la urgència d’intervenció. L’objectiu de l’anàlisi era estimar models per a descriure el canvis en la condició tècnica, al llarg de l’ús de l’edifici.En el treball s’han pogut elaborar documentació estadística sobre 28 elements de l’edifici. En particular, es detallen i s’interpreten quatre dels elements: els revestiment de coberta, les façanes, els zòcals i les vores. Els resultats obtinguts han permès estimar models per tal de predir la progressió de la condició tècnica de l’edifici en el futur. Les principals conclusions del Treball Final de Màster provenen, d’una banda, de les deficiències que s’han pogut detectar durant la gestió de les dades i, d’altra banda, de la discussió i de les conclusions específiques que es deriven de les fitxes estadístiques de l’Appèndix F, per a cadascun dels elements que hi ha a la fitxa d’inspecció
