Antimicrobial resistance is a global concern that threatens our ability to treat common infectious diseases. Measures to reduce the spread of antimicrobial resistance are valuable, but new antimicrobial treatments are also required to slow the current rise in antimicrobial resistance. One potential treatment modality is antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT), which combines a photosensitiser (PS), visible light and oxygen to produce cytotoxic species such as reactive oxygen species.
