Objective To determine the effect of laparoscopic surgery versus open surgery on survival in the management of colorectal cancer patients. Methods We performed a systematic review of the. The search was conducted through PubMed, Embase, Lilacs, Cochrane library and registration of clinical trials data. A qualitative and quantitative analysis was performed. Results We included a total of 24 studies. Laparoscopic surgery was not associated with increased mortality (RR 0.94 95% CI 0.8, 1.11) or greater tumor recurrence (RR 0.74 95% CI 0.40, 1.37).)
