The site selectivity of metallation in the cyclopalladation of substituted diaminobenzenes is influenced to differing extents by the solvent, palladium precursor [Pd], reaction temperatures, reagent and organic base concentrations and substitution of groups on the aryldiamine (see below). For instance, C-Si bond cleavage is favored over C-H bond activation when a SiMe3 group is present and the reaction is carried out in a protic solvent such as MeOH
