Using a critical discourse analysis approach, this study scrutinizes the underlying assumptions and interpretations of ‘women’s empowerment’ in the context of two Bangladeshi mobile phone programmes targeting women: the Grameen Village Phone Programme (VPP), and Maya Apa.
