The wealth of field studies using stable isotopes to make inferences about animal dietsrequire controlled validation experiments to make proper interpretations. Despite severalpleas in the literature for such experiments, validation studies are still lagging behind, notablyin consumers dwelling in chemosynthesis-based ecosystems.
