textabstractAbdominal pain is one of the most common complaints amongst children. Depending on age and the definition used, open population and school based studies have reported a prevalence of chronic abdominal pain ranging from 0.5% to 19.2%. Approximately 57% of the children and adolescents (from now on referred to as children) with chronic abdominal pain consult a physician with regard to this complaint.
