textabstractIFN has been defined as an antiviral agent, but, in addition, displays antiproliferative and immunomodulatory activities. It can be divided in three distinct subtypes: a, ~ and ~ . IFN-a is encoded by a multigene family and comprises a group of structurally very related proteins.
