How to set up and manage quality control and quality assurance

This document provides a general introduction to clarify the differences between quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA). In addition it serves as a starting point for implementing a quality system approach within an organization. The paper offers practical guidance to the implementation of quality and the importance of QC in its relationship to QA. It can be used in conjunction with the various quality regulations or guidelines. Appendix A provides a table of examples of various activities, which will help guide the user to apply a quality system with both QC and QA aspects. It is important to note, however, that the items listed in the table are only examples and should not be regarded as the only way to set up a QC/QA system. Appendix A is based on the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) quality system.
