Emission of volatiles from spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulated crawl spaces

The emission of (di)isocyantes, polyols and blowing agents from curing Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) was studied in a house having its crawl space recently insulated. Before insulation a blank measurement was made and he emission was followed up to 144 hours after the insolation application. The emission of SPF emitting products and therefore their diffusion to the living room was concluded. The highest emission and diffusion is found at the most volatile products: the blowing agents. After 144 hours semi-volatiles as the (di)isocyanates were present in concentrations comparable to their background level. Aminocatalyst, mainly polyols, were detected in the living room almost immediately after the insulation application, however the concentration decreased due time.
