Adopting the idea of bilingual optimization strategies and a usage-based framework, this dissertation explores contact-induced language change in Papiamento and Turkish in contact with Dutch and vice versa. Multilingualism carries with it the potential for personal, economic and social wealth. People who speak multiple languages tend to be creative and innovative people who manage multiple linguistic (re)sources.
