Treatment results after applying enhanced recovery after surgery program for total knee arthroplasty patients.

Research aim – prospectively evaluate treatment results in patients, treated according to ERAS program, after TKA. Research objectives: 1. Evaluate convalescence and changes in quality of life in investigatory group by means of SF-36 and KOOS questionnaires. 2. Compare knee-related symptoms and quality of life in investigatory group patients with those, who received traditional TKA. 3. Evaluate the recovery of knee function in investigatory group and measure the impact of knee recovery to quality of life. 4. Evaluate the impact of blood loss during surgery on post-operative quality of life according to blood hemoglobin levels before and 1 day after surgery. Research contingent and methods – 43 patients, who undergone TKA according to ERAS in LUHSH KK department of Orthopedics- Traumatology, were included in the study. Demographics, perioperative hemoglobin values were documented. Quality of life and other symptoms were evaluated by means of KOOS and SF-36 questionnaires before and 3 months after the surgery. Results were compared with control group. Results – mean ERAS patient age - 67,6. According to SF-36 – physical functioning in ERAS group before surgery 42, after - 52, pain 52 and 58 respectively. According to KOOS – pain in ERAS group before surgery 48, after 63, symptoms 48 and 64, activities of daily living 54 and 65, sports/recreation 17 and 41, quality of life 34 and 51 respectively. When comparing the ERAS group to the control – symptoms before surgery 64, after - 67, activities of daily living 65 and 69 respectively. Knee flexion 1 day after surgery 95o, 3 months after surgery 92o. Knee flexion 3 month after operation, when 3-day post-operative knee flexion is >=85o – 94o, when
