Analysis of treatment in women diagnosed with endometrial cancer

The aim of the study was to analyse treatment of women diagnosed with endometrial cancer in Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinics: to determine the factors influencing the selection of surgical treatment approach and to compare specifications of surgery and outcomes of surgical treatment. A retrospective cohort study was performed. The participants were divided into two groups – operated by laparoscopy and laparotomy, and in further evaluation operated by Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH) and Laparoscopic-Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH). Women operated for endometrial cancer in 2012 (n= 117) and 2016 (n= 143) were included into the study. We concluded that: 1. The choice between laparoscopic versus open surgery is influenced by uterine volume, tumor histology and stage of disease. 2. Laparoscopic approach is related with shorter hospital stay and less post-operative complications, though lymphonodectomy, omentectomy and type 2 hysterectomy were performed less often. 3. Laparoscopic approach in 2016 was related with shorter time of surgery, shorter hospital stays and less complications, though it was not related to the type of surgery (LAVH or TLH)
