Dependencies of urinary incontinence in postpartum from the newborn and childbirth related factors.

Aim: with regard to standardized, adapted to postpartum women, urinary incontinence questionnaire (Annex No.1) evaluate dependencies urinary incontinence in postpartum from the newborn and childbirth related factors. Objectives: 1. Evaluate urinary incontinence in postpartum dependencies from mother’s demographic data. 2. Evaluate urinary incontinence in postpartum dependencies from and newborns anthropometric data. 3. Evaluate urinary incontinence in postpartum dependencies from type of delivery. 4. Evaluate dynamics of urinary incontinence in postpartum after 6 months from delivery. Patients and methods: prospective quantitative research. Research object: women after delivery, whose pregnancy is treated as a low risk pregnancy. Survey sample is composed using inclusion and exclusion criteria. Urinary incontinence in postpartum was evaluated by survey on telephone interviewing women after 6 weeks and 6 months from delivery. Results: Period, 2016 01 01 - 2016 06 01, 78 women, who complies with chosen criteria, gave birth in Kaunas city, 75 of those agreed to participate in the study. 6 weeks after delivery, 67,0% of women had urinary incontinence. Demographics of women who had urinary incontinence and who had not do not differ (p>0,05). It was not confirmed that newborns anthropometrics have influence to urinary incontinence in postpartum (p>0,05), thought, if newborn weight is greater than 3500g, quantity of women with urinary incontinence after 6 weeks from delivery increases. 6 weeks past confinement, urinary incontinence had women given birth: 16,0% via natural delivery paths without perineal laceration delivery, 38,7% via natural delivery paths with I-II 0 perineal laceration delivery, 12,0% via cesarean section, yet, it was confirmed that type of delivery does not affect urinary incontinence in postpartum (p>0,05). 40,0% women, who had urinary incontinence 6 weeks past confinement after 6 months had their symptoms remained the same or worsened, 60,0% women had their symptoms disappeared completely or reduced. The greatest influence on persistence of symptoms had the age above 26 years (p˂0,05). Influence to persistence or intensification of complaints after 6 months past delivery also had the body mass index prior pregnancy (22,44±2,98 kg/m2) and weight of newborn (3579,50±455,70g), although no statistically significant difference between these factors and urinary incontinence past 6 months was found (p>0,05). Recommendations: In order to reduce the incidence of urinary incontinence in postpartum, all women older than 26 years, body mass index greater than 22 kg/m2 and newborn weight greater than 3500g should do the pelvic floor muscles strengthening exercises
