Analysis of successful and unsuccessful external cephalic version

Aim: to determine the factors may have influence on success rate of external cephalic version (ECV) performed in the hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LUHS) Kauno klinikos (KK), Obstetrics department. Objectives: 1. To determine the success rate of ECV performed in the hospital of LUHS KK, Obstetrics department. 2. To evaluate the influence of past obstetrics history, pathology of pregnancy and comorbidities on the outcomes of ECV. 3. To evaluate the ultrasound measurments influence on the outcomes of ECV (fetal positioning and biometric parameters, amniotic fluid index (AFI), pregnancy lenght). 4. To determine a doctor performing ECV experience‘s influence on the outcomes of ECV. Methods: A retrospective study. Object: pregnant women who came to the hospital of LUHS KK, Obstetrics department for ECV in years 2010 – 2016. A study included medical records of 83 pregnant women after ECV. Records were devided into two groups : group 1 – successful ECV and group 2 – unsuccessful ECV. The results: ECV performed in the hospital of LUHS KK, Obstetrics department was 36,15% success. ECV for multiparous women was significantly more successful (p0.05). AFI were significantly higher in group 1 (160,16±54,7mm) than in group 2 (127,37±40,33mm). The data of fetal biometry, type of breech presentation, localization of placenta did not differ in groups (p>0.05). During the period, ECV were performed by 15 different doctors. They made 65%. of all ECV and all the more successful IVA (71 %). Tocolysis was applied to 86,75% women (n = 72). In successful ECV group, fetus were rotate more times (3) than in unsuccessful group (2) (p <0.05). The most common cause of failure of the ECV- was inert fetus (52.83%). All women after successful ECV were given vaginal birth. Conclusions: 1. ECV performed in the hospital of LUHS Kaunas clinics, Obstetrics and Gynecology department was 36,15% success. 2.
