Relationship Between Leadership styles of Nurse Managers and Nurses' Job Satisfaction in Telšiai District Hospitals

Aim of the study. To investigate the relationship between leadership style of nurse managers and staff nurse job satisfaction in Telšiai district hospitals. Objectives. 1. To determine the expression of nurse managers’ leadership styles based on staff nurse opinion. 2. To evaluate staff nurse job satisfaction. 3. To investigate the relationship between leadership style of nurse managers and staff nurse job satisfaction. Methods. The study was conducted in six hospitals in Telšiai district hospitals during March 2017. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire and Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire were used to collect data. Data were entered and analysed using SPSS version 24.0 statistical software. Significance level was considered when p<0.05. For the graphical representation of the statistical data analysis Microsoft Office Excel 2007 was used. Results. A total of 254 copies of the questionnaires were suitable for further analysis (response rate - 70,86%). Transformational leadership styles had the strongest expressions (Individualized Consideration (M=8,06, SN=2,84, Idealised Influence (M=7,29, SN=2,78), Inspirational Motivation (M=7,68, SN=2,30), Intellectual Stimulation (M=7,16, SN=2,71). Greater intrinsic job satisfaction was associated with higher education and nurse or midwife job position. Greater extrinsic job satisfaction was associated with higher education.
