Data from the Wheeler Canyon section of the Ventura Basin show evidence of a much greater rate of subsidence than filling in early Pliocene time; perhaps some uplift followed by about equal rates of subsidence and filling during middle Pliocene time; considerable subsidence accompanied by about an equivalent amount of filling in the late Pliocene time; and an initial uplift followed by some subsidence and complete filling of the basin in the early Pleistocene
