To reduce production costs, the design of heat exchanger is very effective in advance of buying a ready-made exchanger. The design of a calculation of the dimensions of heat exchanger shell and tube type using computerized analysis method Heat Transfer Research Inc.. (HTRI) and manual calculation methods of analysis. Dimensional calculation of heat exchanger is intended to determine the quality of a heat exchanger based on the overall heat transfer coefficient, fouling factors, and pressure drop will occur. Designed heat exchanger is a heat exchanger shell and tube type 1 (one) pass shell and 1 (one) pass counter flow tube with a hot fluid and cold fluid ammonia gas form of water based on field data obtained at PT Sriwijaya Palembang Fertilizer. Dimensional analysis of the calculation results obtained that the heat exchanger has been designed to meet the minimum requirements of the fouling factor has been determined. Quality of the heat exchanger will be increased in proportion to the decrease in the value of fouling factors, the declining value of the magnitude of the pressure drop and heat exchanger dimensions
