Abstract of thesis entitled Queer Representations in Korean Media – Heteronormativity, Homonormativity, and Queer Transgression submitted by Chuk Tik Sze For the degree of Master of Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong in August 2016 With reference to the growing and more-diversified queer representations in Korean media, this thesis focuses on the features of queer representation and on the cultural discourses of sexuality embedded in these representations. The main research question asks how the Korean media represents the queer. The thesis adopts a queer-centered approach to investigate Korean queer representations in multi-genre works, from films and TV dramas to music videos.
