This qualitative study explores the implications of long distance commuting (LDC) for the non-commuting female partner living in rural Newfoundland. The purpose of this research is to identify and potentially address any unmet social or emotional needs of this population. Through in-depth qualitative interviews with eight women from five rural Newfoundland communities, data were gathered around women's use of informal support systems within their communities and how current perceptions of gender roles may influence women's experiences.
