Human daily activities generate a large quantity of wastewater that should be treated in order to minimise the sanitary risk and impacts on the environment. Sewage sludge is the main co-product of the wastewater treatment. Specific processes are implemented to reduce its volume and improve its sanitary quality before valorisation. As dewatered sludge is a mixture of water, microorganisms, fibres, colloidal and non-colloidal particles, organic polymers, etc., with the increase of its solid content, difficulties in pumping, conveying or discharging handling are frequently encountered during these treatments.
