Better knowledge of the factors that drive recombination (crossovers; COs) in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is of main interest since this process is the main tool allowing breeders to admix the genetic diversity and to introgress regions of interest in agronomic varieties. We used cytogenetic techniques previously developed on barley to compare the establishment of synapsis during meiosis in deletion lines missing part or whole of the long arm of chromosome 3B of bread wheat and which were previously shown as having a reduced chiasmata number compared to euploid varieties.
