The IR, Web, and Marketing Departments: The Ultimate Triumvirate

The IR is a great platform to complement the work of the web and marketing teams. In most institutions, however, instead of creating a natural alliance, these departments tend to conflict with competing priorities. What would happen if these three departments fell under one roof? This is the scenario at Seattle University School of Law where the IR, web, and marketing staff are a part of the small, but mighty Marketing & Communications team. In this presentation, we will take a look at some of the ways an IR can be integrated into an institution\u27s website while fulfilling the goals of the IR, Web, and Marketing departments. Populating an IR can be a challenge. But an organization’s website can not only help an IR manager identify potential collections, but also solve some of the storage and retention issues the web team may struggle with while also highlighting the amazing work of faculty, departments, and students. The IR is the perfect place to store documents that many departments and organizations are currently storing on the content management system of the website or learning management systems. Depending on permissions and access to the institution’s website and other systems, some of these changes can be handled fairly easily as long as there is cross-departmental symbiosis. However, that is not the case at many institutions. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of some of the major approaches IR managers may be able to use to help foster these relationships
