Necesidades y demandas laborales de los empleadores de psicólogos/as clínicos, los meses de mayo a octubre de 2015

Psychology in Ecuador is undergoing a process of change and transformation, both socially and educationally, based on the analysis carried out by the Government and its decision to modify the academic structure at the country’s universities. These changes are based on an analysis of the pedagogical model which is used for the teaching of Psychology in this country. With regard to clinical psychology, the need to broaden the knowledge of psychologists and clinical psychologists has been identified, and that this should be reflected in their role; that is to say that their work will not be limited to office and administrative functions; but that other capabilities be developed that will permit them to engage with community-related projects. On the social level there is presently and growing demand for the work of clinical psychologists, as well as in the institutions where there is an increasing need to hire at least one permanent staff clinical psychologist. These professionals must deal with a heavy workload that is often outside his academic training as there still exists a social and cultural ignorance concerning the role of clinical psychologists. This research allows us to verify the social perceptions and the institutional demands of the employers of clinical psychologists, in addition to the opinions, expectations and evaluations they have regarding the role of these professionals in the work environment of institutions and organizations in the Metropolitan District of Quito.La psicología en el Ecuador está atravesando un proceso de cambio y trasformación tanto a nivel social como educativo, justamente con el análisis y replanteamiento desde el Estado para modificar la malla académica en las universidades de nuestro país. Estas modificaciones surgen desde el análisis del modelo pedagógico que se utiliza en las facultades para la enseñanza de la psicología en el Ecuador. En relación a la especialidad de psicología clínica, se ha visto la necesidad de ampliar el conocimiento de los psicólogas/os clínicas/os, para que esto se vea reflejado en su rol; es decir, que su trabajo no se limite al consultorio y a funciones administrativas si no que puedan desarrollar otras capacidades para involucrarse con proyectos vinculados con la comunidad. Actualmente existe una mayor demanda a nivel social sobre el trabajo de la psicología clínica, al igual que en las instituciones donde cada vez se presenta una mayor necesidad de contratar al menos un psicólogo clínico de planta, estos profesionales deben cumplir con una gran carga laboral que muchas veces está alejado de su formación académica; esto se debe a que todavía existe un desconocimiento social y cultural sobre el rol de este profesional. Esta investigación permite constatar cuales son las percepciones sociales y las demandas institucionales de los empleadores de psicólogos clínicos y sobre las opiniones, expectativas y valoraciones que tienen sobre el rol de estos profesionales en el ámbito laboral de las instituciones y organizaciones dentro del Distrito Metropolitano de Quit
