For a large proportion of the nearly 10 million Western tourists who visit Morocco ecery year, Marrakech is the principal entrance to the country, and the visit to the Medina is among the most important events of their trip. In fact, the Medina offers a cospicuous heritage patrimony organically inserted into an atmosphere that answers to the canons and, above all, to the stereotypes of the "orientalism" that still permeates a consistent part of the western image of Morocco. A substantial proportion of the accomodation facilities is owned by foreigners, who posses, in particular, a significant amount of the stock of the Riads, so the Western migrants in Morocco contribute to the increasing gentrification of the Medina
