In this paper, I explore the work of a noted Anglican cleric and orientalist, Solomon Caesar Malan. I take up, in particular, his approach to Sanskrit materials and in particular the Sanskrit Mahābhārata. I argue that he blends missionary and British orientalist perspectives of the first half of the nineteenth century in novel and interesting ways
